How do I divide the room for a boy and a girl?
I have a 2 year old little girl and am expecting a boy in October. Once she turns 3 in March they will be sharing a room. I know its early to think about it know, but I want to get her some new toy storage things and get her closet doors painted, so I’d rather not do that kind of stuff twice.
They have a pretty good size room I think it’s 11′ by 12′. My daughter has a twin sized bed, plus 2 toy storage things, a bookcase, and a dresser. I’m not sure what furniture the baby will have other than a crib and dresser.
Should I divide the room in half and do her stuff on one side and her girly and pink theme, and his stuff and boy theme on the other side? Or should they share everything, I am thinking of putting all the bookcases and toys along the wall so they can have the whole middle of the room to play?
What do you think? Any other ideas? Thanks!!!

I think that, at their ages, your idea to give them the whole middle of the room to play in is best. Personally, I don’t know that I’d go for girly/boy themes. I think I’d choose basic, neutral colors and themes that go well together. Children’s toys and books themselves are so colorful and varied that a less bright and more restful color scheme might work better. If you want something more, you could put a removable wallpaper border with maybe a fairy tale/nursery rhyme or alphabet/number design. They’ll both play with the toys together, anyway, and it will make it easier to redecorate later.
As the kids get a bit older, if they decide they want more privacy or need more separate spaces, you could use bookcases as dividers (side by side, facing in opposite directions; you could put posters, their drawings, blackboards, hooks for clothing, etc. on the backs), as long as you make sure they’re stable and secure so they don’t fall over if they decide to climb on them.

Congratualtions on expecting your little boy.
As for the room, I agree very much with the first answer. Your children are going to want play room so you should give them the middle of the room and then everything else against the wall. I think it might look a little strange if halff of the room is pink and girly and the other all boy-ish. Best to find a neutral, unisex theme (perhaps something like animals or underwater?). But I wouldn’t go too over the top with it.
Happy decorating!
Hi Mommy of two ( almost
)
I like your idea of using 2 walls for her and 2 walls for him. That’s really unique and in my mind all the potential of workability! Huh,, kinda cool Mom, good job! As for the space n the middle of the floor, absolutely. I would also consider some storage space being used under your daughters twin bed. I must say however, I am not entirely a fan of shelf units in kids room Unless they are Securely bolted to the wall. Sounds like you have already thought out a great plan. Happy Baby Happy Decorating!
